Fuel Pump Types & Solutions
The ZOHAMA range includes electric in-tank fuel pumps, electric inline fuel pumps, and complete fuel pump assembly modules, covering different pressure, flow, and electrical requirements.
Electric in-tank fuel pumps — Installed inside the fuel tank, supplying fuel to the engine at the pressure and flow the vehicle’s fuel system requires. Depending on the application, the pump may be supplied individually or as part of a complete fuel delivery module. Widely used across modern passenger cars, SUVs, MPVs, pickups, and light commercial vehicles.
Electric inline fuel pumps — Installed externally along the fuel line. Found across various vehicle platforms and still relevant for older vehicles and specialized fuel-system configurations. Correct selection requires matching the original application, voltage, operating pressure, flow capacity, fuel compatibility, and inlet/outlet design.
Fuel pump assembly modules — For applications requiring an integrated replacement, these combine the pump with other fuel-delivery components — which may include the reservoir, strainer, fuel-level sender, electrical connections, mounting components, and other application-specific parts, depending on vehicle design.
Fuel delivery systems vary considerably between vehicle generations and engine technologies. Where specialized low- or high-pressure systems are used, compatibility should always be confirmed with the exact vehicle, engine, production year, and OE/OEM reference — not the model name alone.
Understanding Fuel Pump Specifications
A fuel pump should never be selected just because its dimensions look similar to the original. These are the specifications that actually determine fit:
| Specification | What to check |
|---|---|
| Fuel type | Gasoline/petrol, diesel, flex-fuel, or ethanol-compatible — pump motor, seals, and internal materials must suit the intended fuel |
| Operating voltage | 12V (typical for passenger vehicles) vs 24V (typical for commercial vehicles) — must match the application exactly |
| Fuel pressure | Port injection, gasoline direct injection, and common-rail diesel all operate in very different pressure ranges — higher pressure isn't automatically "better" |
| Flow rate | Volume delivered over time; depends on engine output, injection technology, pressure, and vehicle design |
| Pump location | In-tank, inline/external, engine-mounted, or integrated into a supply module |
| Configuration | Bare pump, pump with strainer, pump with installation kit, complete module, feed unit, high-pressure assembly, or mechanical assembly |
Low-Pressure vs. High-Pressure Fuel Pumps
One of the most important distinctions in modern fuel systems:
- A low-pressure electric pump typically moves fuel from the tank toward the engine. In conventional port-injection gasoline systems, this supply can feed the injectors directly through the fuel rail.
- In gasoline direct injection (GDI), the low-pressure pump feeds a separate high-pressure pump, which generates the pressure needed to inject gasoline directly into the combustion chamber.
- Common-rail diesel engines also use high-pressure pumps — but these are engineered specifically for diesel systems and shouldn’t be confused with gasoline GDI high-pressure pumps.
This architecture is why correct diagnosis matters: a fuel-delivery problem doesn’t automatically mean the in-tank pump has failed. Technicians may need to check supply pressure, high-pressure generation, fuel filter condition, electrical power, pressure regulation, sensors, control modules, and injectors.
Fuel Pump vs. Fuel Pump Module
These terms are often used interchangeably but aren’t always the same product:
- A fuel pump is the pumping unit itself.
- A fuel pump module is a larger assembly that can integrate the pump with the reservoir, strainer, fuel level sensor, electrical connector, pressure regulation system, and mounting flange.
Before ordering, confirm which assembly the vehicle actually requires and compare it against the OE configuration.
Vehicle Brands & Coverage
ZOHAMA fuel pump applications cover a broad selection of vehicles from major automotive markets:
- Japanese — Toyota, Lexus, Honda, Nissan, Mitsubishi, Mazda, Suzuki, Isuzu. Popular families include Toyota Corolla, Camry, Yaris, Hilux, Land Cruiser, Prado, Fortuner, Hiace; Honda Civic, Accord, City, CR-V; Nissan Sunny, Sentra, Patrol, X-Trail, Navara; Mitsubishi Lancer, Pajero, Outlander, Triton.
- Korean — Hyundai, Kia, Daewoo, and related applications, with strong relevance across Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and Europe.
- European — Volkswagen, Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Opel, Peugeot, Citroën, Renault, Fiat, Alfa Romeo, Lancia, Volvo, Porsche. European platforms vary fuel-system configuration across engines and generations, so OE/OEM matching is especially important here.
- American — Ford, Chevrolet, GMC, Jeep, Buick, Dodge — passenger vehicles, SUVs, pickups, and commercial applications.
- Chinese — Chery and other Chinese platforms, with coverage expanding as demand grows.
Why Choose ZOHAMA
ZOHAMA Fuel Pumps are manufactured for distributors, wholesalers, importers, retailers, and workshop suppliers who need to develop a fuel pump portfolio around real market demand, not a generic catalog.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does a fuel pump do?
It transfers fuel from the tank through the fuel delivery system so the engine receives the quantity and pressure it needs.
Are all fuel pumps the same?
No — they vary by fuel type, pump technology, location, voltage, pressure, flow, dimensions, connector, and vehicle application.
What is an in-tank fuel pump?
An electric pump installed inside the vehicle’s fuel tank.
What is an inline fuel pump?
A pump mounted externally in the fuel line rather than inside the tank.
What is a fuel pump module?
An integrated assembly that may include the electric pump, reservoir, strainer, sender, and other components.
What is a high-pressure fuel pump?
A pump that increases fuel pressure for systems requiring substantially more pressure than the low-pressure supply — such as GDI or common-rail diesel.
Does ZOHAMA supply fuel pumps for trucks and diesel applications?
Yes, according to verified catalog coverage, including commercial, heavy-duty, and diesel low-/high-pressure applications.
Do you supply worldwide, and can distributors request a market-specific list?
Yes — ZOHAMA’s distribution strategy serves international customers subject to product availability, and distributors can share their target country, brands, and OE references for a tailored portfolio.
